The MMT Opportunity
The mobile phone offers a convenient, quick, secure, low cost channel to initiate and receive money transfers. With cross border remittances, domestic transfers, airtime top-up, utility bill and school fee payment, salary disbursements and microcredit loan repayments, the potential value of new revenues and volume of new, loyal customers is phenomenal.
Building on the success of our sell out, smash hit MMT08 global summit in Dubai, attended by over 270 project leaders from 44 countries, and MMT Africa which sold out to over 250 senior level delegates, MMT APAC is another landmark event. The APAC region is famous for cultivating mobile banking innovations and new MMT projects are being announced regularly.

The Asia Pacific region will see the biggest take up of mobile payments-reaching 3.8 percent of all mobile users by 2012. The World Bank estimates that $118.4bn of remittances will flow into East Asia and the Pacific in 2008. The Philippines offers some of the more accommodating regulatory environments for Mobile Money, seeing the potential for MMT to facilitate lower cost, lower value, higher frequency remittances which can have a positive impact on the GDP.
Mobile connections in Asia/Pacific will record a 10.2% compound annual growth rate for the period 2009 to 2013, led by India, China and Indonesia. Service revenue in Asia/Pacific will show a 4.2% CAGR over the same period.
